The Mark Davis piece, entitled “Healing Waters,” is a suspended sculpture, situated above the driveway entrance to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago that represents the flowing movement of water. Comprised of painted blue and green steel and carbon fiber molded plates with a rim of LED lights, these virtual waves are meant to evoke the calming effect of water, and share its positive energy with all who enter the hospital.

Artist Statement:

The installation I have created for TURF consists of two parts. In front is a steel sculpture titled “The Road Ahead Leaves a Trail Behind.” Behind and around this is an assemblage of found fuel tanks from tractors, trucks, cars, homes, and other machines not identified. The “Road Ahead…” is typical of my work using the image of trucks as a starting point. The idea for the assemblage of tanks grew out of two truck sculptures I made earlier using real trucks carrying found objects, “Conversion” and “Galatea.” In all cases, my primary objective is to create something of visual beauty that is unique and stimulating. Once my composition is complete, I invest the viewer with the responsibility for interpretation, if interpretation is needed.

Sculpture “Healing Waters” – by Mark Davis, Maintenence by Vector Fabricating

2013 Healing Water – by Mark Davis

.

The work of Art does not end with  installation and dedication.  After all the ceremonies are over, begins the recurring work of maintenance!  Any piece of art requires periodic washing, cleaning, tightening of nuts & bolts, fixing of cracks and leaks, removal of rusts and dusts, sealing, waxing, coating.. and all the related activities, to keep a piece of art to it’s original form.

The sculpture “Healing Waters” by Mark Davis is located at the driveway of  Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital.  It was dedicated on Nov 15, 2012, [ click here…].. It’s maintenance is done by Vector Fabricating [ click here.. ]  Recently cleaning of accumulated dirt took place..
