Spectral Liberation – by Christiane T. Martens

Installation: 1984 / Reinstalled: 2018

Stainless steel / 14 rainblow hued cancave arcs

Location: Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

.

1984 Barry Hehemann

.

“Spectral Liberation” by Christiane Martens was fabricated by Vector and installed at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden in 1984 as a gift from David Belin. Belin commissioned the sculpture in memory of his wife Connie Belin, whose remarkably sunny disposition and rainbow “signature” were commemorated by the piece. In time, the sculpture had become a hallmark for the Botanical Garden and the surrounding city. When it was damaged in 2017 The Conservation Center hired Vector to re-make the damaged parts and refurbish the surface of the remaining components.
